The purpose of this class is to accustom students to listening to British English as spoken on BBC. Most students are accustomed to American English, but being able to listen to British English is a must for anyone who plans to actually use English in a career.
Each lesson has a vocabulary section. The vocabulary will be checked on the test after each 5-unit division.
People often say that the British are hard to understand. The way of thinking is different from Americans, and British jokes tend to be cool and cynical compared to American jokes. This is something students will become accustomed to.
At first, a lot of students think they completely can't understand British English. But by getting used to the different pronunciation points, I think it's actually easier to listen to than American English. Maybe you will think so too.

Because this is a news-related class, students will be expected to keep up with current events. I recommend installing a free foreign news application, for example BBC, and looking it over once a day.
First we do an internet listening exercise related to the topic of the week. Then we check the vocabulary and begin the news story listening. After listening four times, we check the dictation exercises and comprehension questions. Then we do summary dictation practice. Finally we discuss the topic of the week in English.
After 5 units we have a test. The front side is a vocabulary test. The back side has a listening - writing test. First students listen to the questions and write them down exactly as they were said. Then students write their own answers to the questions.
