 This course aims to raise your English speaking skills through the review and practice of basic English, the preparation and delivery of short speeches on familiar topics, and vocabulary development.

 Constant practice is required to improve or maintain language proficiency. You cannot passively acquire English speaking skills. Speaking 1 is your opportunity to use English to speak on familiar topics with a native English speaker to help and guide you. Improvement of basic English speaking skills, especially verb tense accuracy, and increasing active vocabulary are specific objectives of this course.

 Week 2:Language review - to be, has/have
 Week 3:Speaking practice - Introduce Someone - e.g. a movie/pop star,
 Week 4~5:Language review - the simple present tense
 Week 6:Speaking practice - My home town
 Week 7~8:Language review - the simple past tense
 Week 9:Speaking practice - Book Review
 Week 10~11:Language review - the present continuous tense
 Week 12:Speaking practice - How to make/do something
 Week 13~14:Language review - the simple future tense
 Week 15:Balloon Debate - You are a passenger on a ballon which will crash if its load is not lightened. Make a speech that will ensure that you are not thrown out of the balloon!

 Although the title of this course is gSpeaking,h we will also do some reading for pronunciation and listening practice to enhance your English speaking ability. I will give demonstrations and general guidance about what I expect you to do. I will also provide individual help with your English. Vocabulary development will be pursued through homework.
