 This course will focus on helping students develop solid listening skills and improving their understanding of a wide variety of spoken English, including accents and world English. Students can expect to increase listening ability through regular activities aimed at challenging student concentration to hear what is being spoken and to understand the meaning behind spoken English.

 The first section of this course will cover introductions, describing people, time and numbers, and listening for dates and times. The middle section of this course will practice listening for gist, attitudes, making predictions, listening for similarities. The final section will focus on listening for details, numbers and listening for comparisons.

 Students will build on prior knowledge and skills for listening, while practicing listening for different types of spoken English. These include casual conversations, directions, descriptions, apologies and suggestions, and learning how to recognize inflection in voice tonal patterns.
