This course is a continuation of Speaking 1, and has the same aims: to improve your English speaking skills through the review and practice of basic English, the preparation and delivery of short speeches, and vocabulary development.
Constant practice is required to gain, improve or maintain language proficiency. You cannot passively acquire English speaking skills. Speaking 2 is your opportunity to use English to speak on familiar top-ics with a native English speaker to help and guide you. Improvement of basic English speaking skills, especially verb and tense accuracy, and increasing active vocabulary are specific objectives of this course.
Week 1~2: Language review - the past continuous
Week 3: Speaking practice - a travel story, talk about a place you have visited
Week 4~5: Language review - comparatives and superlatives
Week 6: Speaking practice - Which is better: Love or Money?
Week 7~8: Language review - the present perfect tense
Week 9: Speaking practice - Ten Steps to Happiness: your choices
Week 10~11: Language review - some/any, quantities
Week 12: Speaking practice - Ten Steps to Happiness: analysis of the results
Week 13~14: Language review - the passive voice
Week 15: Speaking practice - The world in 2040: What will it be like?
Although the title of this course is gSpeaking,h we will also do some reading for pronunciation and lis-tening practice to enhance your English speaking ability. I will give demonstrations and general guid-ance about what I expect you to do. I will also provide individual help with your English. Grammar accuracy and basic descriptive skills will be pursued through homework.
You will be evaluated by your attendance (30%), your contribution to classes (content, 20%; and fluen-cy, 20%), and homework (30%). If your contribution is not of sufficient length or quality, you will be asked to do it again.
English is the language of the classroom
