【科目の目的】

 Become more confident and competent speakers of English through practice, guidance and vocabulary development.

 • Gain confidence speaking English about familiar topics
 • Increase active vocabulary
 • Increase proficiency of verb tense accuracy when speaking
 • Increase fluency through regular practice of spontaneous speech
 • Upon completion of the course students should be capable of delivering extended spontaneous speech on various topics for at least 2 minutes
 
【授業内容】
 第1回:Introductions and class overview – class goals and building a vocabulary diary
 第2回:Simple present & past tense review– talking about your daily life and what you did in High School (or last year for returning students)
 第3回:Skills Workshop – Asking and answering questions (learning how to listen for key information)
 第4回:Speaking Task 1 - Talking about your home town – students speak for 2 minutes without notes about their hometown.
 第5回:Present perfect tense review – talking about things you’ve done
 第6回:Vocabulary Quiz 1; Skills Workshop – How to have “English Smalltalk” (Answer – Add – Ask)
 第7回:One-on-one and group Smalltalk – open topics and given topics
 第8回:Speaking Task 2 – Group Smalltalk; keeping a conversation flowing
 第9回:Skills Workshop – Talk about any topic! Learn how to speak with confidence for a few minutes on any topic.
 第10回:Practicing spontaneous speech on various topics.
 第11回:Speaking Task 3 – Talk on a Topic – students deliver 2 minutes of spontaneous speech on 1 of 4 topics selected at random by the student on the test day.
 第12回:Vocabulary Quiz 2; Skills Workshop – Preparing for an interview in English
 第13回:Practice interview skills by interviewing classmates
 第14回:Speaking Task 4 – Interview with teacher – Students are interviewed by the teacher for 5-7 minutes answering questions about their university life.
 第15回:Speaking Task 4 – Interview with teacher – Students are interviewed by the teacher for 5-7 minutes answering questions about their university life
 
【教育方法】
 Learner-Centered; Constructivist – After establishing the foundation of the learners’ English language level, communicative language skills and confidence to use English are developed through goal-oriented tasks with transparent objectives and assessment points; students learn in a structured but very active classroom where the teacher aims to facilitate learning through classroom activities and assignments focused on the learner.

 • Speaking Tasks 60% (Talking about my home town 10%; Group Smalltalk 15%; Talk on a Topic 20%; Interview with teacher 15%)
 • Vocabulary quizzes – 20% (2@10% each)
 • Attendance – 10%
 • Class Participation – 10%
