This course will NOT be about Advanced Writing, but a course about Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language (TESOL)
You will be introduced to different fundamental aspects of TESOL. This course is for anyone who thinks they may want to teach English.
- Gain valuable knowledge and insight about teaching English
- Understand how 2nd languages are learned
- Learn practical teaching skills
- Learn how to test students' language learning
Weeks 1-5 - Second Language Learning
Weeks 6-10 - Practical aspects of teaching English as a second language
Weeks 11-15 - Testing English
Learner-Centered; Constructivist – Students will first gain knowledge and information through reading and class discussion. They will then work in groups to prepare presentations and write reports on each of the 3 areas of focus in the course.
Presentations 45% (3 presentations @ 15% each)
Reports 45% (3 reports at 15% each)
Teacher will provide
This course will be entirely taught in English with English readings - it is not for students who are not serious about learning the skills to be English teachers.
If you really want to be an English teacher, or think you might want to, this course is for you! I will share my knowledge and experiences of more than 20 years of teaching English, studying language and linguistics and how to test your students' progress in all aspects of language study. This class will not be easy, but it will be interesting and you can learn a lot!
